BerryVine Messenger Support
Before purchasing BerryVine Messenger™ it would be best if you would simply try out our 7 day trial version. If this version functions or if you can make this version function with your BlackBerry, you can be sure that the full-version will function too.
Overview
To use BerryVine Messenger™ you will need the following:
• One of the supported BlackBerry, which means a BlackBerry of the 7xxx series.
• BlackBerry OS 3.6 or higher
• BlackBerry Desktop software version 3.6 or higher
• MDS, MDG or direct TCP functionality
If you encounter any problems, make sure that you download and install all the available BlackBerry and BlackBerry Enterprise Server service packs and updates through your provider or from www.blackberry.com.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In some cases on BlackBerry OS 3.8 or higher, BerryVine Messenger can function without an MDS. To set this up, check out this link for more info.
Important note regarding MDS
Before installing the software on your handheld, please make sure that your BlackBerry device is enabled for Mobile Data Services (MDS). MDS is the BlackBerry Enterprise Server component that allows third party applications on BlackBerry devices to make TCP/IP connections. MDS is included with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 3.5 or higher for MS Exchange or BlackBerry Enterprise Server 2.2 or higher for Lotus Domino. Nextel/Telus BlackBerry 75xx series devices usually do not require MDS in order to establish TCP/IP connections. These models use a gateway provided by the service providers and this service is called Mobile Data Gateway (MDG).
BES configuration
Before using the application, make sure that the Mobile Data Service of you BlackBerry Enterprise Server is active. If not, select the ‘Start Mobile Data Service’ option from the BlackBerry Server Manager console. In the HTTPS/TLS section of the MDS properties make sure the option ‘Allow outbound connections to untrusted servers over HTTPS’ is turned on. If you have a BES behind a firewall, be sure that connections to all servers in the passport.com and hotmail.com domains are permitted (*.passport.com, *.hotmail.com) and ports 80, 443 and 1863 are opened.
Important notes regarding the sign-in procedure
Please be patient when performing the sign-in procedure. Due to the limited bandwith of BlackBerry devices, the sign-in procedure could sometimes take up to 90 seconds. Hotmail accounts usually take longer to sign-in than other Passport-accounts. Should your sign-in fail, please wait a minute and then try again.
Known issues
In this section we display the issues that we are currently working on:
- no structural issues at the time
Even if your problem is mentioned here, please keep sending in any bugs or errors you encounter. Thank you! FAQ
Q1: When installing the application the Desktop Manager Application Loader reports: "'BerryVine Messenger' could not be loaded because some required files are not available".
A1: If you have desktop software version 3.6 or higher, please try the following:
- Download the BlackBerry API Updater from here.
- Run BlackBerry_API_Updater.exe to extract the updater to the default folder c:\BlackBerry_API_Updater.
- Run Setup.exe located in the same folder.
- Run the Desktop Manager Application Loader to install the BlackBerry API Library and BerryVine Messenger (ensure it is checked in the list of applications to install) on to your handheld.
Q2: When trying to run the BlackBerry API Updater, the application displays the message 'it doesn't appear that the
BlackBerry software is installed on this machine. exiting...'. What is going on?
A2: If you encounter this message, it could be that you do not have the BlackBerry handheld applications installed on your BlackBerry. Before you can continue, you will need to install the handheld applications:
- Contact your system administrator or wireless service provider for information on where to download the latest handheld applications.
- Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.
- Download the handheld applications for your device model from your wireless service provider (you can find a short list here, but it would be better to acquire the software through your service provider).
- Double-click the file you downloaded.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Verify the handheld applications have been added to Desktop Manager and install them.
- Run the BlackBerry API updater, like you have tried earlier.
- Try to install BerryVine Messenger.
Q3: Can't sign-in. The progress bar hangs at the status 'Connecting...' and after a while i get the message 'Connection Error, No Connection Found'.
A3: To able to connect to the MSN network you need to have full TCP connectivity. So you either need BES/MDS or Direct TCP from your carrier. If you have RIM OS 3.8 or higher, you can setup Direct TCP by going to Settings -> TCP of your BlackBerry. There you will find the fields APN, Username and Password. Contact your carrier to find out these details.
For more information about setting up Direct TCP see the following link:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185
Note: To test your connection, try the diagnostic option in BerryVine Messenger. It will test the required ports, if all ports fail it is likely you won't be able to login.
Q4: I cannot uninstall BerryVine Messenger.
A4: To uninstall BerryVine Messenger go to the "C:\Program Files\RSIC\BerryVine Messenger 1.XX\" directory on the PC you installed the application from. There you will find a "bvm_uninstall.bat" uninstall batch file. Run it while your BlackBerry is connected to your PC/Laptop. After this BerryVine Messenger is deleted from the device.
Q5: Port 443 fails or i get java.io.IOException:input stream already open during login.
A5: Please go to the Preferences screen in BerryVine Messenger and change the connection type from ‘Secure’ to ‘SSL30’.
